On Remembrance Sunday I joined the morning commemorations at the war memorial in Lancaster with my husband Ben representing me at the Cenotaph in Fleetwood. This is a reversal of what I did last year when I attended the commemorations at Fleetwood. Like my predecessor I alternate between Lancaster and Fleetwood for the 11am service every year.
In the afternoon I was pleased to be able to join local councillors and mayors at the Preesall march and church service at St Oswald’s. At this time of year I have been reflecting on my role as a politician to stop conflict and war, as so often those who pay the highest price for conflict tend to be those who have had the least involvement in causing it. At a time when there is great uncertainty in the world I remember conflicts past and commit myself to building a more peaceful world. We will not forget them.
